DSL or Cable?
Which one?
Before you say "CABLE/FIBRE IS FASTER U N00BZ "
There are a lot of other things you must take in to account. Personally I am on DSL's side. You might learn a few things from this thread.

Re: DSL or Cable?
Good point there jordy.
I'm going to make a few arguements here now
Cable:
Pros:
Usually faster and cheaper than DSL.
If you don't use your landline phone you can cancel line rental.
Cons:
Not available in most places in the UK and many other parts of the world.
If other people in your street are on cable your internet will slow down when they start using the internet.

Re: DSL or Cable?
Just because you can get it doesn't mean the rest of the world can. I can't. Also me too with the avatars.
Re: DSL or Cable?
Definitely Cable. I work as a network administrator for Comcast, and I can assure you that our internet speeds are way faster than anything you can get from a phone company. Not to mention it's more widely available of course. I know from experience, because I've used both types of connections. DSL is for suckers!!

It's widely available in the US. But there is no cable available in my area and most of the UK. DSL is available in almost 100% of homes in the UK.CPUMaster500 wrote:Definitely Cable. Also with LLU and 21CN coming to more and more exchanges (although they aren't in my exchange, 21CN will be available in 2011) you can see DSL reaching speeds of up to 24mbps at pretty low prices.
Also at least in the UK it's not really cable, it's fibre (which is only available in cabled areas) and there's only one ISP; Virgin Media and quite honestly: THEY SUCK!!! Also if you want any speeds over what DSL can achieve you're paying through the nose.
Re: DSL or Cable?
Here we only got Dial up, WiMax, ADSL, Wireless broadband (3/3.5G) and FTTH for universities, companies..
Re: DSL or Cable?
ADSL is pretty good. Because I'm close to my telephone exchange I can get 6.5mbps with ADSL if my phone line wiring is any good and I have a decent ISPAzlan96 wrote:Here we only got Dial up, WiMax, ADSL, Wireless broadband (3/3.5G) and FTTH for universities, companies..

Have You switched to O2 then yet. Cause I thought you thought Aol was horrible and you only got around 2mbps.
Re: DSL or Cable?
All internet speeds differ depending on location. I'm in the Houston area here in Texas, and DSL speeds here are nowhere near as fast as cable. I think the highest speed you can get with DSL in this area is about 3Mbps. With cable, you can get as high as 16Mbps.Lorne wrote:It's widely available in the US. I know of cities where you can get cable connections with speeds up to nearly 50Mbps. But it hasn't gotten that fast in my area yet. I'm hoping it might in a few years.

Re: DSL or Cable?
DSL = Best choice in the UK
Cable = Best choice in the US.
So that's what we've established so far. Keep going guys!!!

Believe it or not, they made the pipe things to put all the cables in my town, but guess what...
THEY DIDN'T PUT THE CABLES IN! F**K!
